The Strangers

They had come from nowhere, and now they were everywhere

A few months after her mother dies, the novelist Naomi Alderman notices a strange new creature captured on her garden wildlife camera. Low to the ground, with flat faces and long, trunk-like noses, the mimmoths quickly become as common as foxes or dogs. No one knows where they’ve come from or what they want.

Alderman cannot shake the sense that she has a particular connection to the mimmoths. But she is far from the only person to feel this, and as their impact grows, she is pulled into the cross currents of conspiracy theories and global power struggles.

Has her own experience of grief lent recent events a surreal air, or is reality changing drastically and irrevocably? And what will these strange creatures reveal about themselves, and humanity?

Compulsively engrossing ... draws us into an uncanny world of hurt and tenderness. Speculative fiction with brains and heart
