A reverend is found dead on the alter of St Magnus cathedral in Orkney, his white robes stained in blood. Every door into the building is locked - the keys are all still inside - so how was the murder committed?

Detective Inspector Jack McNaughton is assigned to the case. He recently moved with his young family back to the Orkney islands after a botched Edinburgh police operation, so this is his chance to prove that he still has what it takes to catch a killer.

In a community where everyone knows each other’s business, it isn’t long before rumour begins to spread. And when another body turns up, Jack finds himself at the centre of a nightmare, unlike anything he’s faced before.
