Chatto & Windus publish a rich and wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry: books that will last and that are beautiful in form and content; that spark ideas; that are pure pleasure.
Since 1855 we have been home to a trailblazing list of writers including Marcel Proust, Virginia Woolf and Angela Carter. We are the proud publishers of Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, A. S. Byatt, Colin Thubron, Anne Tyler, Edmund de Waal, Richard Flanagan and Nigella Lawson. Among a new generation of writers are Caroline Criado Perez, Christie Watson, NoViolet Bulawayo, Xiaolu Guo, Diana Evans and Amanda Gorman.
We have made a name for publishing books that break free of conventional genres, and a strong feminist commitment runs through our publishing. We are proud custodians of our heritage (notably Leonard and Virginia Woolf’s The Hogarth Press, which has been part of Chatto since 1946) and creative editors, developing book ideas and seeking out new trends and talents.
