Terms and conditions:
  1. By entering this prize draw, you agree to accept and be bound by these terms and conditions.  All entry instructions form part of the terms & conditions of this prize draw. 
  2. This prize draw is open to anyone aged 18 or over who is a resident of the United Kingdom, except for employees of the promoter, its group companies, its subsidiary companies, their families and any other company connected with the prize draw.
  3. Entries must be received by 23:59 BST on Tuesday 6th October 2026. Entries that are illegible, incomplete, corrupted or which fail to be received by the closing date for any reason, will not be counted. The promoter is not responsible for entries delayed or lost in the post. Automatically generated entries or entries via agents or third parties are invalid and shall not be counted. Entries shall not be returned. Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.
  4. To enter please order A Year at Highclere by The Countess of Carnarvon [9781529963939] from any UK bookstore including Amazon, Waterstones, Independent Bookstores and the Highclere Shop. The book must be purchased for entry. Please retain your proof of purchase (a receipt or invoice) as if you are selected as a winner, you will be asked this proof in order to claim your prize.
  5. All correctly completed entries will be entered into a prize draw which will take place on 13th October 2026. The first entry drawn at random by an independent person will be the winners. 
  6. The prize is: two tickets to attend the Talk by Lady Carnarvon and Guided Castle Tours at Highclere Castle, Newbury RG20 9RN on Friday 18th December 2026, and up to £200 in travel expenses to and from the castle. As part of your prize win you may select from either the Morning Talk (which begins at 10am with a recommended departure of 1:30pm) or the Afternoon Talk (which begins at 12:30pm with a recommended departure of 4:00pm). The tickets include a talk by Lady Carnarvon, a tour of the castle including the Egyptian Exhibition and some seasonal light refreshments. More details on the event can be found here. Please turn up at the front door 10 minutes before your selected talk start time and be advised the Grounds will be open no earlier than 09:30am. The prize is non-transferrable and no cash alternative will be offered. The time of the tour and dietary requirements will be agreed on and coordinated between the winner and the Promoter and subject to availability.
  7. Other than those specified above, the promoter shall not be liable for any costs or expenses arising out of or in any way connected with this prize and does not accept any responsibility for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by the winner as result of accepting this prize.]
  8. Events may occur which render the awarding of the prize impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the promoter and the promoter may, at its absolute discretion, vary, amend, suspend or withdraw the prize with or without notice. 
  9. The winner will be notified via email within 28 days of the closing date (i.e. by 3rd November 2026). The winner will be asked to send their proof of purchase in order to claim the prize. Please do not send any bank or card details with such proof The winners must claim their prize within 30 days of the promoter sending notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.

Please note we are required to make the winner’s details available to the ASA if requested.

Promoter may disqualify any entrant whose entry does not comply with these terms and conditions (in promoter’s sole opinion) or who, in Promoter’s sole determination, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the competition, manipulating or rigging votes, hacking, deceiving, using multiple accounts to submit multiple entries, cheating or by harassing or threatening other entrants, the panel or a representative of promoter.
