Win 100 free books for your primary school

In partnership with Twinkl, we’re giving primary schools across the UK the chance to apply for a free Lit in Colour book donation for their library, made up of 100 different Penguin books by Black, Asian and minority ethnic authors.

The donation includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry and mythology. In addition to the 100 books for the school library, each school will also receive a class set (15 copies) of The Good Turn by Sharna Jackson.

Who's eligible to apply?

  • Any state primary school or alternative education setting in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland is eligible to apply
  • Please note that the following schools are not eligible: (i) Fee-paying/private schools; (ii) schools already taking part in or are eligible for, the World of Stories programme with The National Literacy Trust; (iii); and (iv) schools that have taken part in the World Book Day or 7th June volunteering initiatives.
  • If your state primary school is based in the following regions (Braintree, Harlow, Thurrock, Basildon, Wolverhampton Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell Swindon, Stockton, Gateshead, Redcar & Cleveland, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, and Blackpool) you may be eligible for World of Stories. This award-winning partnership with the National Literacy Trust supports primary schools to develop an inclusive culture of reading for pleasure through bespoke training and free books. Lit in Colour primary book giveaway: terms & conditions 

1.  To enter please complete this application form.

2.  By entering this competition, you agree to accept and be bound by these terms and conditions (Terms and Conditions).  All entry instructions form part of the Terms and Conditions of this competition. 

3.  No purchase is necessary to enter the competition.  

4.  This competition is open to any state primary school or alternative education setting in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Please note that the following schools are not eligible: (i) Fee-paying/private schools; (ii) schools already taking part in or are eligible for, the World of Stories programme with The National Literacy Trust; (iii); and (iv) schools that have taken part in the World Book Day or 7th June volunteering initiatives.

5.  Entries must be received by 23:59 BST on Friday 7th October 2022 (Closing Date).  Entries that are illegible, incomplete, corrupted or which fail to be received by the Closing Date for any reason, will not be considered. Promoter is not responsible for entries delayed or lost in the post.  Proof of postage is not proof of receipt.  Automatically generated entries or entries via agents or third parties are invalid and shall not be considered.

6.  Only one entry per school.  No school may win more than one prize. 

7.  All valid and correctly completed entries must be received by the Closing Date, from which five hundred (500) schools will be selected at random (“Selected Schools”). 

8.  The prize shall be one hundred (100) books made up of a range of titles by Black, Asian and minority ethnic authors published by Penguin Random House UK, plus fifteen (15) copies of CLASS SET TBC (“Prize”).   The Prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.

9.  Events may occur which render the awarding of the Prize impossible due to reasons beyond the control of Promoter and Promoter may, at its absolute discretion, vary, amend or suspend with or without notice.   No correspondence will be entered into.

10.  Selected Schools will be notified via email by 4th November 2022.  Selected Schools must claim their Prize within thirty (30) days of the Promoter sending notification.  If the Prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules. 

11.  To obtain details of the Selected Schools please email litincolour@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk stating the name of the prize draw in the subject heading 4 weeks after the Closing Date.

12. Prizes will be delivered to the Selected Schools by no later than 25th  November 2022, with at least two (02) weeks’ notice given to the Selected Schools to expect delivery.

13.  The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details.  By entering this competition, schools consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the school has consented.  Details on how we process the personal data of entrants can be found in our Privacy Policy.

14.  Selected Schools agree to take part in reasonable post event publicity and to the use of their school names and photographs in such publicity. 

15.  Promoter may disqualify any school whose entry does not comply with these Terms and Conditions (in Promoter’s sole opinion) or who, in Promoter’s sole determination, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other Entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the competition, the Prize draw, manipulating or rigging votes, hacking, deceiving, using multiple accounts to submit multiple entries, cheating or by harassing or threatening other Entrants, the panel or a representative of Promoter.

16.  Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into in relation to the competition and the results.

17.  This competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by or associated with Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. You acknowledge that all information and material that you submit to enter the competition is submitted to the Promoter and not Twitter and you agree that Twitter shall not be liable to you in any way in respect of this competition.

18.  These Terms and Conditions are governed in accordance with the law of England and Wales and the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
