Mark Gatiss (Author) Mark Gatiss is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter and novelist. He is known as a member of the comedy team The League of Gentlemen alongside Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and co-writer Jeremy Dyson. He has both written for and acted in the TV series Doctor Who and Sherlock, the latter of which he also co-created. Jeremy Dyson (Author) Jeremy Dyson is best known as one of the comedy team The League of Gentlemen, along with Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. He also co-wrote (with Andy Nyman) and directed the supernatural stage play Ghost Stories and directed the Sky Arts series Psychobitches, which won the 2015 Rose D'Or for Best TV Comedy,
Alfred Döblin, one of the great figures of German modernism, was born in 1878 to a Jewish family. He moved to Berlin at the age of ten, where he remained for the next 45 years. Döblin's 1929 masterpiece Berlin Alexanderplatz made him famous, but he was forced to flee to France and then Los Angeles during the years of the Nazi dictatorship. He died in 1957.
