Doctor Who: The Trial of a Time Lord Collection

Four exciting novelisations in which the Doctor is on trial for his life.

Terrance Dicks (Author) Terrance Dicks became Script Editor of Doctor Who in 1968, co-writing Patrick Troughton’s classic final serial, The War Games, and editing the show throughout the entire Jon Pertwee era to 1974. He wrote many iconic episodes and serials for the show after, including Tom Baker's first episode as the Fourth Doctor, Robot; Horror at Fang Rock in 1977; State of Decay in 1980; and the 20th anniversary special, The Five Doctors in 1983. Terrance novelised over sixty of the original Doctor Who stories for Target books, including classics like Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen and Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion, inspiring a generation of children to become readers and writers. He died in August 2019, only weeks before the publication of his final Doctor Who short story, ‘Save Yourself’, in The Target Storybook. Philip Martin (Author) Born in Liverpool 1938. Pip & Jane Baker (Author) Pip &amp; Jane Baker were British TV and film writers. Lynda Bellingham (Reader) Lynda Bellingham was a regular on ITV's Loose Women, appeared on BBC1's 2009 Strictly Come Dancing and also played the lead role in the stage version Calendar Girls - on the West End stage and touring the country. Her television career spanned over 40 years, and included All Creatures Great and Small, Doctor Who, Second Thoughts, Faith in the Future (Best Comedy 1997), At Home with the Braithwaites, The Bill and the much-loved role of 'Oxo Mum'. Finding love and happiness in later life, she married Michael Pattemore in 2008, the man known to Loose Women viewers as 'Mr Spain'. 
 
Lynda was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013, and sadly passed away a year later aged 66. Colin Baker (Reader) Colin Baker is an English actor who became known for playing Paul Merroney in the BBC drama series The Brothers from 1974 to 1976. He went on to play the sixth incarnation of the Doctor in the TV series Doctor Who. He reprised the role for the 1993 Children in Need special, Dimensions in Time, and the 1989 stage show Doctor Who – The Ultimate Adventure. He has also voiced the Doctor for over 140 Doctor Who audio stories for Big Finish Productions. Bonnie Langford (Reader) Bonnie Langford is a beloved British actor, well-known for her role playing Melanie Bush, companion to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors, in Doctor Who. She has also starred in numerous West End productions, and played Carmel Kazemi in EastEnders. This is her first novel.

Martin Jarvis reads this exciting novelisation of a classic TV adventure for the Sixth Doctor, introducing the slug-like Sil. The TARDIS has stalled in mid-flight, and it is only on the planet Varos that the Doctor can find the precious Zeiton-7 ore he needs to continue his travels through Time and Space. Arriving on the planet, he saves the rebel Jondar from execution, and incurs the wrath of Sil, the sadistic representative of the Galatron Mining Corporation on Varos. 
 
 The hunt is on for the Doctor and his rebel friends. And as they are pursued through the corridors of the deadly Punishment Dome, the Doctor discovers that the people of Varos have some very disturbing ideas of entertainment...

In need of Zeiton-7 to repair the TARDIS, the Doctor and Peri travel to the planet Varos. A former prison for the criminally insane, Varos is now ruled by the descendents of the guards. The population is kept in check and entertained by broadcasts of torture and execution from the Punishment Dome – where the TARDIS lands. 
 
Soon the Doctor and Peri, together with rebel fugitives Jondar and Areta, find themselves trying to escape the Dome’s traps and challenges – all on live television. 
 
Can the Doctor and Peri escape the Punishment Dome, and help the Governor ensure the people of Varos get a fair deal for their Zeiton-7?

Terrance Dicks (Author) 
Terrance Dicks was born in East Ham, London in 1935. His first writing jobs in radio and television included scripting episodes of Crossroads and The Avengers. In 1969 he became the script editor for Doctor Who, and went on to become one of the most influential figures in the series' history. He wrote over fifty novelisations for the Target Books range, as well as two spin-off stage plays and several television scripts. He was one of the most prolific authors of children's fiction.
