The Diaries

Bridget Jones’s Baby

Bridget Jones, the world’s favourite singleton, is back with a bump in the irresistible Sunday Times bestseller – now a major film.

Before motherhood, before marriage, BRIDGET JONES, with biological clock ticking very, very loudly, finds herself unexpectedly pregnant at the eleventh hour.

Her joyful pregnancy is dominated, however, by a crucial but terribly awkward question – who is the father? Mark Darcy: honourable, decent, notable human rights lawyer? Or Daniel Cleaver: charming, witty, notable fuckwit?

A gloriously funny and touching story

Bridget Jones is as relevant and funny today as she has always been... Daniel [Cleaver] is not only alive and shagging, he also has the best lines… Again and again he comes up with smutty one-liners that steal the show

How can a reader not love this woman?

Helen Fielding is one of the funniest writers in Britain and Bridget Jones is a creation of comic genius

Bridget Jones is no mere fictional character, she's the Spirit of the Age

Fielding’s narrative diverts from the screen version: notably that feckless Daniel Cleaver, the original “fuckwit” in Bridget’s life is, gratifyingly, very much alive and central to the plot of the novel. "VG"

It’s a real fun read. The jokes are great and you find yourself rooting for Bridget and praying she gets the outcome she deserves

Before I read this book, I wondered whether there could possibly be anything left to tell. This book is absolutely necessary. At a time when the world seems especially dark and difficult, and sometimes stacked against women, Bridget Jones’s Baby is both a longed for slice of escapism and a real inspiration

It’s very, very good… Fielding reminds us once again she’s queen of encapsulating the female experience… Short, pacy and perfect

Helen Fielding is the author of Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and Bridget Jones’s Baby, and was part of the screenwriting team on the associated films. She has two children and lives in London and Los Angeles.

Bridget's back and it's v.v. good... I laughed, I cried and most of all I loved

A fun, fast-paced, entertaining ride...I devoured the book in two days

Sharp and humorous...snappily written, observationally astute...genuinely moving

You'll be left feeling like you've just met up with an old pal you haven't seen for ages – and wish you could have done it sooner

‘In an emergency, I turn to Bridget Jones’ DOLLY ALDERTONWhat do you do when a girlfriend’s 60th birthday party is the same day as your boyfriend’s 30th?Is it morally wrong to have a blow-dry when one of your children has head lice?

Is sleeping with someone after 2 dates and 6 weeks of texting the same as getting married after 2 meetings and 6 months of letter writing in Jane Austen’s day?Pondering these, and other dilemmas, BRIDGET JONES stumbles through the challenges of single motherhood, online dating, and achieving ‘acceptance and calm’ in what SOME people rudely call ‘middle age’.
