A terrific, all-absorbing read. A wonderfully eerie haunted house set-up is given new life by brilliant, atmospheric writing, and by those rare things in any ghost story: real heart and feeling. I loved it!

Gytha Lodge, Sunday Times bestselling author

While The Whistling is an intricately plotted ghost story, it is also a beautifully poignant study of grief that kept me guessing right to its satisfying end. A must read!

Dripping in gothic melodrama, this chilling mystery is the perfect read for a cold winter's night

A genuinely creepy book with a gripping mystery at its heart. For fans of Laura Purcell and gothic historical fiction, this is a must!

If you love haunted house ghost tales that are as psychological as they are supernatural, then you'll love Rebecca Netley's atmospheric debut

Hope Adams, author of Dangerous Women

Fíona Scarlett, author of Boys Don't Cry

Rebecca Netley grew up as part of an eccentric family in a house full of books and music, and these things have fed her passions.

Family and writing remain at the heart of Rebecca's life. She lives in Reading with her husband, sons and an over-enthusiastic dog, who gives her writing tips.

The Whistling is Rebecca Netley's debut novel and won the Exeter Novel Prize.

Alone in the world, Elspeth Swansome takes up the position of nanny on a remote Scottish island.

Her charge, Mary, is distracted, secretive - and hasn't uttered a word since the death of her twin, William, just days after their former nanny disappeared.

No one can say what happened to William. Just as no one can explain the lullabies sung in empty corridors. Nor the whistling that comes in the night...

Winter draws in. Passage to the mainland becomes impossible. Elspeth finds herself trapped.

But is this house haunted by the ghosts of the past?

OR THE SECRETS OF THE LIVING..?

Rebecca Netley

If Halloween whets your appetite for Victorian Gothic, the author of The Whistling delivers once again.

An atmospheric, eerie read, perfect for autumn

A chilling and atmospheric tale…you are drawn into a haunting mystery that will keep you guessing

The Black Feathers has everything you could want in a Gothic novel, underpinned by a thrilling sense of menace. Reminiscent of Jane Eyre and The Silent Companions, the wild setting of the windswept Northern moors was a perfect backdrop for the rising tensions within Guardbridge, a grand old house in the finest tradition of English Gothic, keeping all sorts of secrets. Spooky, twisty, with a surprisingly emotional pay off, The Black Feathers is a wonderful way to spend a dark autumn evening

The perfect book for a cold winter’s night...an immersive gothic tale, dark and mysterious, in which it seems one must fear the living as much as the dead. Truly haunting!

Looking for an atmospheric read to while away the autumn nights? Set in a big house on the Yorkshire Moors, this Gothic ghost story delivers intrigue and suspense in spades

Atcmospheric, ghostly and gripping. A gothic tale of magic and wickedness

The Black Feathers is such a glorious autumnal read. With echoes of Wuthering Heights and Rebecca, it is both a spine-tingling ghost story and a powerful meditation on grief. A beautifully written tale that gripped me from the very first page.
