On an ordinary day, Sam cycles to work and kills a man. A step into the road. A second too soon. That’s all it takes. By nightfall, Alfie is dead, his wife widowed - and Sam is facing the rest of her life as an accidental killer.

When Sam and her sister Maggie search Alfie’s rucksack, they find a lunch box containing a few mushrooms, and think little of it. But what if Alfie wasn’t innocent? What if, before he stepped into Sam’s path, he was on his way to do something unforgivable?

Sam knows Maggie has long been fascinated by death. By what makes a killer. But while Sam tries to move on from becoming one herself, she has no idea her sister is hiding something dangerous.
