About Heather Darwall-Smith

Heather is an accredited psychotherapist and sleep specialist who works with individuals with ADHD and sleep disorders, bridging the gap between mental health and sleep medicine. She has delivered talks and courses on sleep and ADHD-related insomnia on platforms including Seed Talks and Soho House. Heather was diagnosed late in life with ADHD herself – which meant she could join up the dots that others hadn’t. Determined to understand why sleep is so uniquely difficult for neurodiverse minds, she’s spent years combining scientific research with therapeutic insight. She knows firsthand what it’s like to live with a disco ball of a brain that refuses to switch off, especially at night. This blend of professional expertise and personal experience allows her to speak with both authority and deep empathy.

She is the author of The Science of Sleep (DK 2021) and the recently released How to Be Awake So You Can Sleep Through the Night (HC 2025). She is regularly approached for expert comment and involvement in PR campaigns. She has been featured extensively in the press, podcasts and TV including Lorraine, The Programme, ITV's flagship current and consumer affairs series, the Daily Mail, Liz Earle Podcast, The Times, ITV, The Sun, The ipaper, Stylist Magazine, Psychologies Magazine, Saga Magazine and many more.
