The After Witness

My name is Jack Fletcher.
I am a detective.
I am a murderer.
And I am a time traveller.

This is my story.

To save the future, Jack Fletcher must journey to the past . . . literally.

Set in a version of our world where time travel is possible but strictly illegal, The After Witness, is a thriller about a man caught in a conspiracy to change the future.

Jack Fletcher, a disgraced former detective, is serving six years behind bars for, in a moment of madness, causing death by dangerous driving. Wracked by guilt and self-doubt, he is approached by the mysterious Mr Smith - a near cliched 'man in black' - with an offer: Help me do something to make the world a better place and I will free you from prison.

Desperate for his freedom and to make amends for his mistakes, Jack agrees. Transported in utmost secrecy to an island in the North Sea and the lighthouse that dominates the landscape, he is to be part of a secret project to prove that time travel can be used safely. Jack is to become an After Witness - someone who is sent back to the recent past in order to witness previously unsolved crimes . . .

Working with a small group of other individuals, each with their own secrets, Jack is sent into the past - not to intervene but to gather the evidence needed to bring criminals to justice.

But on one such journey, when he's been sent to witness the murder of a notorious British nationalist politician, Jack is wrong-footed to see another time traveller there - one who breaks the cardinal code of time travel, who intervenes to change events. Returning to the lighthouse, a stunned and dismayed Jack delves further into the After Witness programme and begins to uncover a much bigger plot that seeks to change history . . .

Jack realises that it is within his power to defeat this extraordinary conspiracy, but to save the future, he must travel into his own past . . .
