Frankie Gray

Publishing Director, Transworld

Hi! My name is Frankie and I’ve worked at Transworld since 2014, most recently as Publishing Director for Commercial Fiction. My list includes brilliant, inspirational authors like Ruth Jones, Stuart MacBride, Alison Hammond, Louise O’Neill and Sophie Kinsella, amongst others, and I publish everything from crime and thriller to book-club fiction, romcoms and a little bit of non-fiction.

I love working at Transworld and I hope you will too. It’s a hugely ambitious publisher – with an enviable roster of bestselling authors and phenomenon publications – and the sky is the limit for the books on the Transworld list. We make it our mission to search out the very best talent and to help those authors reach the widest possible readership. It’s also a hugely collaborative, supportive and generous environment – as our MD says, ‘a good idea doesn’t care who has it’. We’d love to hear your ideas.

Mentoring is a huge honour and I’m thrilled to be part of the Next Editors Programme. Every time I have been lucky enough to mentor in the past – whether writers or colleagues – and also in working as a manager, I have learnt as much myself as I have been able to impart. I relish the opportunity to share my knowledge and to work collaboratively with an aspiring editor in this way. I can’t wait to meet you.

What makes a Commissioning Editor in my team?

A Commissioning Editor in Transworld’s Commercial Fiction team is a voracious reader and a passionate advocate for the books they love – books that provide entertainment, escapism and unforgettable stories – as well as someone who enjoys collaboration and teamwork.
